Case Study Accuracy. Precision. Repeat.

Field surveyor.

The Challenge

The ownership group of the Insignia Towers in Seattle contracted Terrane to monitor their structures for settlement during and after the SR99 highway tunnel boring project, also known as Big Bertha.

Our challenge was to place and measure optical survey monitoring points on two 50-story towers in a dense urban area. Our results needed to be repeatable for the duration of the project and annually after construction was complete.

The Terrane team used tried and tested techniques and state-of-the-art equipment to provide peace of mind to the owners and tenants of a significant high-rise structure.

The Results

  • Overcame challenges of structure height, limited sightlines, and setting a long control baseline outside of the affected area
  • Used high-precision digital equipment for accurate differential leveling measurements at both foundation and rooftop levels
  • Maintained building monitoring annually since 2016 thanks to monitoring target placement and materials

Our dedication to accuracy and precision in our baseline setup made the high degree of repeatability on this project possible.
